Asesinados la actriz venezolana y ex Miss Mónica Spear y su esposo

El hecho ocurrió en la autopista Valencia-Puerto Cabello, a la altura de El Cambur.

Caracas.- La actriz de TV Mónica Spear Mootz (29) y su esposo, el irlandés Henry Thomas Berry (39), fueron asesinados por un grupo de antisociales en la autopista Puerto Cabello-Valencia pasadas las 10:00 p.m. de este lunes.

Fueron tiroteados desde un automóvil cuando se encontraban en la vía porque el vehículo donde se desplazaban estaba accidentado. Ambos murieron en la vía y los trasladaron a la Morgue de Puerto Cabello. Posteriormente los cadáveres de las víctimas fueron trasladadas hasta la morgue del Hospital Central de Valencia, donde las autoridades esperan que se presenten los familiares para retirarlos.

El Toyota Corolla marrón, placas GBY74K, donde fueron atacadas las víctimas permanece en la subdelegación del Cicpc de la capital carabobeña, donde será sometido a las experticias.

Informaciones preliminares señalan que Berry y Spear se quedaron accidentados porque el carro cayó en un hueco y se le rompieron dos cauchos. Mientras esperaban la ayuda de una grúa sucedió el atraco que derivó en el doble homicidio.

Spear ganó el Miss Venezuela en el año 2004. Interpretó su último papel como protagonista en la telenovela Pasión Prohibida de la Cadena Telemundo.

El comisario Daniel Álvarez, jefe de la División Contra Homicidios del Cicpc, confirmó la información y señaló que una brigada de Caracas se trasladará a Puerto Cabello para iniciar la investigación por el homicidio de la joven actriz y su acompañante.

La pequeña de ambos, de 5 años, (que también iba en el automóvil) fue trasladada con un tiro rasante en una pierna a un centro asistencial de Caracas, donde está acompañada de algunos de sus familiares.

El Ministerio Público comisionó a los fiscales 2 Nacional Narda Sanabria, y 8 de Carabobo Wilmer Romero para coordinar las investigaciones del doble homicidio.

La zona donde se produjo el doble asesinato está tomada por las autoridades policiales.

Diariamente, los medios locales reportan al menos un atraco en las cercanías de donde ocurrió el doble homicidio, el sector El Cambur de la autopista Valencia Puerto Cabello.

A British man and his beauty queen wife have been murdered in front of their five-year-old daughter after a robbery gone wrong in Venezuela.
Thomas Berry, 39, from London and 2004's Miss Venezuela, Monica Spear Mootz, 29, were gunned down by thieves after their car ground to a halt on the Puerto-Cabello to Valencia highway.
The bodies of Mr Berry and Ms Spear were found in the car with their daughter, who has been injured in the leg.

It is not yet known if the child, who is now under the protection of the authorities and is believed to be called Maya, was shot by assailants.

The family was in a grey 2002 Toyota Corolla when the gang struck. They were waiting for a repair truck when they were killed.

Ms Spear was a famous TV actress following her pageant victory and appeared in a number of telenovelas (South American soap operas), with her roll in 'Forbidden Passions' the most notable. She was well-known throughout the Spanish-speaking world as a result.
Mr Berry, who describes himself as an independent travel consultant in an online profile, lives in the capital Caracas and is reportedly separated from Ms Spear, reports El Universal.

Venezuela's public prosecutor has appointed two separate investigators to the case, while the CICPC, Venezuela's SWAT police force unit, has been deployed to nearby slums for answers.

Commissioner Daniel Alvarez , head of the CICPC's homicide division, promised 'fast results in this awful case.'

The Foreign Office say it is aware of the reports and are looking into it with the assistance of its offices in Venezuela.
A spokesman said: 'We are aware of reports of the death of a British national on 6 January in Venezuela.

'We stand ready to provide consular assistance to the family.'

Venezuela is one the most violent places in Latin America and armed robberies, carjackings and kidnappings are rife.
The annual murder rate in Caracas alone is an average of 80 murders per 100,000 people, the third highest in the world.

Majority of murders occur in the slums where police presence is minimal. Eastern Caracas is home to South America’s largest slum, named Petare with more than two million residents, where the police to public ratio is 1 officer to every 3,000 people.

There were an estimated 24,000 murders in 2013, one of the world’s highest homicide rates. It has tripled in the previous decade.
Gun ownership is also high, with an estimated 15m unlicensed weapons in circulation.
