A dozen young couples were flogged in the street in front of a cheering crowd for allegedly having sex outside marriage . One of the young women could be heard whimpering as she limped away from the mob, with women flanking her as she struggled to walk unaided.
The scene of public humiliation took place in Banda Aceh, the capital of conservative Muslim province of Aceh, Indonesia . The woman was one of 12 people arrested among six unmarried couples caught during a raid on a local hotel late last year.
She is among at least two women who appeared unable to walk following their painful punishment on March 4, which took place in front of a mosque. Sharia police marched the 12 to a public square outside a mosque where they were caned as punishment for having a sexual relationship outside of marriage.
